Turn Your Friends into Zombies with App of the Dead

iPhone News

They say there’s an app for everything and everyone, and that would now appear to include zombies! To celebrate the release of George A. Romero’s forthcoming Survival of the Dead zombie movie, he’s partnered with Addictive Interactive to come up with App of the Dead for iPhone and iPod touch, which is due to hit the Apple iTunes app store around the same time as the movie (May 28th).

If you’ve always wondered what your friends or family members would look like as zombies, now’s your chance to find out! Take pictures of your loved, and not-so-loved ones or import photos from existing galleries and bring them to undead glory with over 20 zombie features, including weapons, deformed eyes, grisly scars and bloody wounds! Then, once you’ve zombied up your mates, you can use App of the Dead’s first-person shooter mechanics to stop them in their tracks in time-honoured zombie-slaying fashion, blood splatters a-plenty! All your prized gore-tastic photos can then be uploaded to Facebook and other social networking sites, or emailed to the very friends you’ve just zombified. Sounds like a lot of fun and refreshing to see a filmmaker doing something a little different with a movie tie-in for once.

Adobe Starts I Love Apple Ad Campaign

iPhone News

We Love AppleAdobe today went on the passive aggressive when it launched their new ad campaign. “We Love Apple” the ad says, “What we don’t love is anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it, and what you experience on the web”.

The ad takes aim at Apple’s war on Adobe’s bread and butter, the Flash development platform and it’s exclusion from the iPhone application development process to act as middleware.
Our pal Deb Aoki sent us a pic of the full page ad that Adobe took out in the San Francisco Chronicle today. Adobe also placed banner ads on Engadget. Ars Technica and The New York Times. iPad or iPhone folks probably can’t see the ads since they are created in Flash and everyone knows (by now) that these devices can’t… ah well you know.  Edit: Looks like the ads show up on the iPhone and iPad, but they are just static images and not Flash animated.
But perhaps that’s not who Adobe is targeting anyway.
It will be interesting to see if Apple will fire back, or if this ad campaign has any teeth at all. We’re not exactly sure how the public will react to this, or if they’ll even care. However, we do think that Mr. Jobs won’t be pleased with this call out.
Check out a larger version of the ad after the break.

Telltale Games Introduces Puzzle Agent to the World

iPhone News

When I heard the first whispers about this latest collaboration and project from Telltale Games I couldn’t wait to hear more. Telltale has most recently been responsible for reviving classic games such as Sam & Max and Tales of Monkey Island in the most magical way possible, reinventing them as episodic masterpieces for downloadable platforms, PCs and Macs.

Puzzle Agent is Telltale’s latest project, and will be appearing on the iPhone and iPad as well as Telltale’s usual platforms. The result of a partnership with animator Graham Annable (creator of Grickle), Puzzle Agent is the first game to be created as part of Telltale’s new Pilot Program, which operates in a similar fashion to the TV pilot system. The program is designed to enable Telltale to explore new video game concepts, content, and play patterns, to complement the publisher’s current episodic projects. If a pilot proves to be successful, it may well eventually become an episodic project.

In Puzzle Agent, players take on the role of Nelson Tethers, the lead (and only) agent in the U.S. Department of Puzzle Investigation, who has been sent on a rare field assignment to Scoggins, Minnesota, to investigate what is halting output at the town’s eraser factory. The game combines brainteasers such as mazes, puzzles, logic and riddles with an engrossing, twisted mystery story, all presented with Annable’s unique narrative and visual sensibilities and the distinctive Telltale style.

Look for Puzzle Agent to be released in June 2010.
