AT&T’s data plans are as follows:

2G iPhone: $1,875

3G iPhone: $2,017 (Pre Tax)

These are the annual rates that AT&T will be charging you for service. After taxes the 3G iPhone will be well over $200 a month more than usage of you 2G iPhone. While the 3G iPhone is cool this is kind of ridiculous. There is no difference in usage (and therefore cost to the service provider) on a 3G iPhone compared to a 2G iPhone. Sure, it is possible to use a bit more, but I would say that less than 5% of plan holders would use it all every month. I think the iPhone needs to be opened to all service providers to start bringing down prices a bit.
