Mirror’s Edge iPhone Out Today
iPad owners have already been enjoying the leap-tastic Mirror’s Edge for several months, and now it’s the turn of iPhone owners to find out what all the fuss is about, as EA has announced that the game has been released to the iTunes App Store today for .99/£2.99. The game has been designed to maximise the visual intensity available with the iPhone 4 Retina Display, so that the amazing cityscape backdrops look better than ever. The plot is centered around the adventures of Faith Conners, a member of an underground group known as “Runners”, who are essentially acrobatic messengers and the last source of free communication in the tightly controlled futuristic city in which the game is set.
When a deadly threat rises up from within Faith’s group, it turns out that Faith is the only one who can deal with the threat, and she must then use all the acrobatic skills at her disposal to survive, including wall running, sliding down ramps, riding ziplines and leaping between rooftops, across 14 spectacular levels. Going by the early reviews on the app store, the extra wait while EA redesigned the game specifically for the Retina Display has been well worth it, as some are saying this could be the best looking iPhone game ever! See for yourself by downloading it from the App Store here.

Turn Your iPhone into a Mini Karaoke Machine
Now you really can have a party in your pocket - a karaoke party to be more specific, with Zentertainment’s Pocket Karaoke, which is available to download from the iTunes app store now for {content}.99 for your iOS 4-enabled iPhone or iPod touch. The app lets you sing Karaoke and record your singing voice with your iPod songs. All you have to do is choose a song from your iPod library, and the app will do the rest for you, by removing the singer’s voice automatically, so that you can then sing along to your heart’s content with the instrumental music. Even better than just singing along, your voice will actually be recorded, so that you can play your performance back through the headphones or speakers and show off your abilities (or otherwise!), to your friends. Seems like a great idea and a lot of fun, provided you’re a decent singer of course! I can see a lot of potential for misuse though!
iPhone App Development: The Missing Manual

I’ve been hoping to learn a little iPhone 4 development for a while now, and this summer I planned to try my hand at learning how to use the iPhone SDK and Objective C. The trouble is, I knew nothing about programing and really didn’t know where to start aside from Apple’s own documentation.
Luckily the Missing Manual series has just the thing I’ve been looking for: iPhone App Development: The Missing Manual by Craig Hockenberry, who just so happened to be the developer of Twitteriffic, a very popular Twitter client for the iPhone and iPad. The book promises to help you get to know the tools for developing an iPhone app and takes you through the steps of building one right off the bat. It also dives into the basics of Objective-C and Cocoa Touch as well.

Tilt to Live Update Features New Frostbite Game Mode and Burnicade Weapon
One Man Left’s accelerometer-based, hi-score-driven tilt-control-only shooter for the iPhone and iPod touch has finally introduced its long-awaited Frostbite update, which is now available as a free download from the App Store. In the new Frostbite mode, a blizzard of enemies falls from the top of the play area to the boiling hot spring below. Your job is to destroy the frozen dots before they reach the hot spring and get reanimated. When you shatter enemies, you earn score multipliers for destroying the larger clusters, filling the meter at the bottom of the screen in the process. Filling the meter will earn you a Burnicade pickup, which burns enemies for fun in its deadly fire.
The free update also includes seven new award challenges, where you can share your results with the world via the AGON Social Platform for iPhone games. If you don’t already have a copy of the game, you can download it for .99 from the App Store.

UK iPhone Users Complaining About Massive Roaming Bills
This is a story which has been picked up by the British media, which tends to get a bit hysterical about these things, so have a pinch of salt ready when you’re reading it. It’s possible that there is a kernel of truth in the story though, in which case it’s something that British iPhone users possibly need to be aware of when travelling overseas this summer. According to a report in the Telegraph newspaper, as well as other newspapers, some UK iPhone customers have been returning home from trips abroad to find themselves with big data bills, despite having turned off the data roaming option.
Apparently many users have complained to consumer champion Martin Lewis’s well-known MoneySavingExpert.com website about the matter, with one user even saying that she was charged almost £1,500, despite having turned off data roaming during a recent trip to the US. According to the report, many users who have complained have managed to get their charges refunded. Apparently the complaints are from users of all mobile networks in the UK, although the most complaints have been from O2 customers, that’s probably because they have the highest number of iPhone users, according to the Telegraph. Martin Lewis is advising those who think they have been unjustly charged to contact their network and ask for a refund. According to Lewis, the number of complaints about this issue coming into his website have increased greatly in the past week.
An O2 spokesman has said that the company is “investigating these problems with Apple”, so watch this space in other words!
