I know a lot of people in Europe bought the iPhone and want to downgrade to 1.1.1 to unlock it. Here is how its done:

NOTE: This guide does not guarantee it will work 100%. Also errors 1015 is expected at the end of the process. Continue reading to understand.
1. Download the 1.1.1 ipsw firmware file from Apple. If the downloaded file has the extension “.zip”, please remove it and modify it to end up with a filename ending in _Restore.ipsw
2. Reboot your iPhone holding the top (power) and home buttons BUT release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen goes dark) and continue to hold the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode. The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes if not started yet .
3. Restore your iPhone by pressing and holding the ‘Shift’ key on windows or ‘option’ key on Mac, then click ‘restore’ to select the 1.1.1 firmware file you downloaded earlier. The restore should go through and errors at the end with error 1015. However you will notice that the iphone is in DFU mode with the connect to itunes screen from 1.1.1.
In order to kick the phone out of that mode I just had to launch iNdependence version 1.2.5 and wait a minute or so.
Now you are ready to follow the easy steps at the following LINK in order to reactivate the phone:
http://iphoneunlocked.mostofmymac.com/Unlocking_Instructions.html
PS: And for those who wonder about IPSF, I tried to run it on my downgraded iPhone and it could not unlock the phone. It errors with “Unable to download firmware”. We should expect and update from IPSF shortly!
Info taken from Hackint0sh, thank them if you like it.

Hi all, it seems like using iNdependence to kick iPhone out of this mode works best with iTunes 7.4.1 -
Note: DON’T USE 7.4.2 as my phone kept restarting itself in some crazy loop when I tried. PS if anyone knows where people can download 7.4.1 mac and windows please post it. thanks.
November 29th, 2007 at 8:34 am
Hi guys,
I have successfully updated 2 iphones from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 and jail breaked and unlocked..( pse note both these phones are with old boot loaders) I also got the same errors trying to install appsnap on 1.1.1 and running anysim 1.2 on 1.1.1.
For sake of all pse try to follow these steps
1. Ensure boot loader is 3.9 and NOT 4.6
2. update/ restore 1.1.2 ( whatever be your current firmware)
3. Put ur iphone into DFU mode ( either ibrickr or Sleep&Home keys trick)
4. Downgrade to 1.0.2
5. Use Winstaller to activate, jailbreak and Update installer,
6. install installer and update
7 install BSD subsystem
8 Install anysim 1.2 and run
9 Make sure u can make and recieve phone calls on 1.0.2
10 install oktoprep
11 UPDATE to 1.1.2 with itunes
12 Jail break 1.1.2
13. Install iworld if you are using iphone in a country in which it is not released.
Deliberately I have avoided all links…. pse google for all dowload files… all the best…..

December 3rd, 2007 at 3:57 pm
FOR EVERYONE TRYING TO DOWNGRADE TO 1.1.1 USING WINDOWS:
1. Put your iPhone into DFU mode
2. In iTunes hold the shit key and click on ‘Restore’
3. Select the 1.1.1 firmware file and hit ‘OK’
4. After about 4 minutes you will get an error (That’s OK)
5. Close iTunes
6. Download and Install iPhuc.exe
7. Type each of these commands on their own line and hit enter for each:
cmd setenv auto-boot true
cmd saveenv
cmd fsboot
exit
8. Wait a few seconds and your iPhone should be out of DFU mode and at the activation screen.
Put iPhone in DFU mode: With iTunes still open and the iPhone still connected, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen turns black. Once it does, let go of the Sleep/Wake button. Continue to hold the Home button until iTunes displays a pop up about the iPhone being in recovery mode. Click OK.
Firmware Files: http://www.hacktheiphone.com/112/iphone_firmware_update.html
iPhuc Install: http://code.google.com/p/iphuc/
Hope this information helps!
December 4th, 2007 at 3:27 am
i followed chadpriddle’s instruction and after step 8 my phone got back to the activation screen successfully. Now after i turned the phone off and back on again it returned to DFU mode again. I had to start over, and when I tried install appsnapp and the phone reboot it also got back to DFU mode.
any help here?
December 4th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
***REVISED*** FOR EVERYONE TRYING TO DOWNGRADE TO 1.1.1 FROM 1.1.2 USING WINDOWS:
1. Put your iPhone into DFU mode (With iTunes still open and the iPhone still connected, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and
the Home button until the screen turns black. Once it does, let go of the Sleep/Wake button. Continue to hold the Home button
until iTunes displays a popup about the iPhone being in recovery mode. Click OK.)
2. In iTunes hold the shit key and click on ‘Restore’
3. Select the 1.1.1 firmware file and hit ‘OK’ (Download it here: http://www.hacktheiphone.com/112/iphone_firmware_update.html)
4. After about 4 minutes you will get an error (That’s OK)
5. Close iTunes
6. Download iPhuc (Download it here: http://code.google.com/p/iphuc/)
7. Launch the iphuc.exe and type each of these commands on their own line and hit enter for each:
cmd setenv auto-boot true
cmd saveenv
cmd fsboot
exit
8. Wait a few seconds and your iPhone should be out of DFU mode and at the activation screen.
***If you have an AT&T activated sim card then goto to step 9a. If not then goto step 9b***
9a. Connect to iTunes and let your iPhone activate. If your AT&T service does not work that is ok
10a. Now add your WiFi network
11a. Launch Safari and type jailbreakme.com
12a. Now go straight to step 22
***Continue if you do not have an AT&T activated sim card***
9b. Slide to reach the emergency dial screen
10b. Enter *#307# and then press call
11b. Your phone will ring itself, press answer
12b. Press hold now and your phone will start ringing again
13b. Press Dismiss and your phone will go into the contacts/dial screen
14b. Press contacts from the bottom bar and add a contact
15b. Add a contact with a random name and homepage of: prefs://1f
16b. Save it and click on the link. This will take you straight into the settings menu of the iPhone
17b. Select ‘General’ and then select ‘Auto-lock’and hit ‘Never’
18b. Now go back and add your WiFi network
19b. Hit the home button and you will now be taken back to the emergency dial screen
20b. Repeat steps 10b-14b and now add another contact with a random name and a homepage of: jailbreakme.com
21b. Save it and click on the link. This will launch safari and take you to the appsnapp install page. Continue to step 22
22. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Install appsnapp’
23. After it installs you should have a jailbroken and activated phone with the installer.app
24. Launch installer and install ‘BSD Subsystem’ and then select the sources button at the bottom of the screen
25. Click on ‘Edit’ and then click on ‘Add’
26. Type ‘http://i.unlock.no’ the sources will refresh
27. Select the install button at the bottom of the screen and scroll down where it says ‘Unlocking Tools’
28. Now install ‘BB Downgrade’ to downgrade your 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 baseband
29. After it installs you have to re-flash the firmware for the changes to take affect. Repeat steps 1-5 above and then after
that proceed to step 30
30. So now you should have an iPhone that you downgraded to 1.1.1 from 1.1.2 and then installed appsnapp, installer, BSD
Subsystem, BB Downgrade and then re-flashed the firmware again to 1.1.1 and are now back to the activation screen
***If you have an AT&T activated sim card then goto to step 30a. If not then goto step 30b***
30a. iTunes should now activate your iPhone and your AT&T should now work
31a. Launch Safari and type jailbreakme.com and install appsnapp again. That’s it!
***Continue if you do not have an AT&T activated sim card***
30b. Repeat steps 9b-27 and then proceed to 31b
31b. Select and install anySIM and follow the instructions
32b. Restart your iPhone and that’s it!
NOTES: This is for those that want to downgrade there iPhone and baseband back to 1.1.1
This will not work with brand new out of the box iPhones that already come with firmware version 1.1.2
Sorry if the guide is a little confusing and jumps around a bit, just follow the steps!
If you restart for iPhone with 1.1.1 and have not yet downgraded your baseband then you iPhone will restart back into DFU mode
Please post comments if you have any questions

I bought an iPhone which came with v1.1.2. I know that there is no solution available to unlock the sim right now. How about iPod function? I downgraded to v1.1.1 and hope that iPod would work. But iPod also doesn’t work. Any help is appreciated.

December 8th, 2007 at 3:06 am
Is there any way to unlock the iPhones that come with .1.1.2 or does anyone know when apple is making or bringing out the 1.1.3. Fw
December 9th, 2007 at 3:27 pm
Chadpriddle - I have a question about your note…. So if I have a pre loaded out of the box iphone with FW 1.1.2, I cannot downgrade to 1.1.1 and jailbreak? Thats the only part im confused about. Since the note is at the end of the post and doesnt say if you are talking about unlocking or jailbreaking or both. It seems as I am stuck and cannot jailbreak because I have a preloaded 1.1.2. Please clarify.
December 9th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
I can restore on my mac to 1.1.1, but then it gets stuck and the emergency slide will not appear. I tried this from iNdependence:
then you’ll need to find the version of the MobileDevice framework that was installed with iTunes 7.4.2 and put it somewhere on your computer. Something useful might be at:
http://rapidshare.com/files/68410680/MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework.zip.html
4) Once you have that, choose the location of the MobileDevice.framework folder using the first file chooser.
5) If that works, then choose the location where you installed iNdependence on your computer using the second file chooser.
6) At this point you should see a success message.
I did that (with the mobiledevice framework) but it would not let me choose the location of the framework? and hence my phone is still in recover mode? any suggestions??
December 10th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
After Error 1015 just run iBrickr, close iTunes and chose boot phone from iBrickr menu. - Works like a charm.
Cheers

Hi
I tried all this (mac) nothing helped. Whenever I downgrade I get the error 1015 because it does not downgrade the modem firmware. I can upgrade to 1.1.2 but then I cannot installer apptapp which means I cannot install iWorld which means I cannot use my iPhone properly.
Any idea on how I can:
either
install apptapp on a 1.1.2 phone
or
get iWorld on the 1.1.2 without using apptapp
or
downgrade my modem firmware to 1.1.1. (which means 4.2.13_G I guess)
