It seems the iPhone wasn’t such a fad overseas. In fact it drew almost no special attention, save that of journalists trying to cover a big story. One store employee was even quoted as calling the empty store “an average Wednesday afternoon”. It seems all the hype was simply that, hype.

I am not sure they wanted to generate hype this time. Given the large volume of shops offering it in the UK, O2, Apple, and Car Phone Warehouse I think the demand was spread thinly. I think if they wanted to really hype it up they would have restricted the launch to 2-3 stores in cities so instead of 20-30 people at a shop they had a longer and more active queue.
That and the fact the tariff is shocking

Ok, but we have to realise what the iPhone really is. It doesnt have the latest features/technology (its a couple of years old in that respect) and other phones offer twice the bang-for-buck. The iPhone is merely a fashion item for those with money to burn. If thats what you like - go for it. If you want a real phone - look elsewhere.
